SMS Text Messages
What is SMS?
SMS (Short Message Service) is a service for sending text messages of up to 160 characters to mobile phones that was originally designed for use in the Global System for Mobile (or GSM) communication standard. Due to the popularity of SMS text messages it is also available on GPRS and 3G mobile phone networks. SMS text messages is similar to paging however, SMS messages do not require the receiving mobile phone to be active and within range and will be held, by the network, for a number of days until the mobile phone is active and within range.
What is MMS?
Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is a communications technology that allows users to exchange multimedia communications between capable mobile phones and other devices. An extension to the Short Message Service (SMS) protocol, MMS defines a way to send and receive, almost instantaneously, wireless messages that include images, audio, and video clips in addition to text. The simplest application of MMS is to forward photos taken by camera phone to another mobile phone.
